RUNNING THE EXTRA MILE: Tim and Carmin’s Journey with Chaeli Sports and Recreation Club

We are thrilled to be part of the incredible Chaeli Sports and Recreation Club (CSRC) and to run in support of the Chaeli Campaign’s remarkable work for our disabled children and community. Chaeli, alongside her parents, has been an immense source of inspiration for us, and meeting them was a dream come true.

During the CSRC Fun Run on Dreyersdal Farm, a surprise revelation unfolded as Tim realized he had attended Bergvliet High School with Chaeli’s dad, Russell. Our shared passion for running, dating back to the 1980s, became the starting point of a beautiful connection.

My (Carmin) personal running goals, including completing the Comrades and Two Oceans Ultra Marathon, have always been a driving force. Tim, with an impressive running career boasting 21 Two Oceans Ultra Marathons, 10 Two Oceans Half Marathons, 2 Comrades Ultramarathons, over 100 Marathons, and a few Triathlons, has been a constant source of inspiration. Witnessing Chaeli’s remarkable achievements has added another layer of motivation to our journey.

Mine and Tim’s paths crossed in 2012, leading to the discovery of our mutual love for road running. Joining the Fit2000 Athletics club marked the beginning of our running journey. In March 2022, we embarked on a new chapter, leaving Fit2000 in search of a new club. Fate intervened when Tim noticed The Chaeli Campaign’s running top during a visit to their office, and without hesitation, we became proud members of the Chaeli Sports and Recreation Club.

Sporting our distinctive purple and white club colors, we actively participate in local races, attracting inquiries from fellow runners curious about the club. Sharing the values and mission of the Chaeli Campaign brings us immense joy, and being recognized as the Sports Personalities of the Year 2023 was an unexpected honor.

Our heartfelt gratitude to The Chaeli Campaign for all that they do. We are incredibly proud to be associated with such a phenomenal organization.
